Thesis resume
This work deals with the study of complex hyperbolicity of compactifications of quotients of bounded symmetric domains, and more specifically, of quotients of the ball. If we are given such a compactification, we are interested in the geometry of the entire curves it contains, as well as to the type of its subvarietes.
In the case of a ball quotient, we use metric methods, based on the work of J.-P. Demailly and S. Boucksom, to show that on a ramified cover of a toroidal compactification, étale on the inside part, and ramifying at orders higher than 7 on the boundary, there is no subvariety which is not of general type, and also not included in the boundary. In this setting, this gives an effective version of a theorem of Y. Brunebarbe. We can also apply these same metric methods to the study of other situations than these smooth compactifications : with E. Rousseau and B. Taji, we give metric criterions for the algebraic hyperbolicity of these compactifications, when the quotients have cyclic singularities. Besides, in a joint work with Y. Brunebarbe, we apply these methods to the case of varieties which support a complex variation of Hodge structure, with maximal variation.
In the case of the ball, we present also an effective version of a theorem of J.-P. Demailly, concerning the bigness of the Green-Griffiths jet differentials on the given compactification.
Finally, we show that the previously described metric methods can actually be applied in the case of any bounded symmetric domain. Our methods permit to give a unified treatment of the algebraic and transcendental complex hyperbolicity, and can give effective results, similar to the previous ones, for other bounded symmetric domains than the ball.
