The doctorate is a professional research experience ( cf. amended decree of May 25, 2016) requiring training throughout the thesis, in order to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to carry out research successfully and pursue a successful career, whether academic or non-academic.
The doctoral student is required to complete at least 100 hours of training.
It is the doctoral student's responsibility to divide these up over the duration of his or her doctorate, as appropriate and relevant to his or her needs and availability, in agreement with his or her thesis supervisor.
These training courses, governed by the individual training agreement, are divided into 2 blocks and 4 categories:
- 50 hours of scientific training: Thesis tools & Seminars
- 50 hours of professional training: Relational, organizational, managerial skills & Skills specific to the research profession.
Doctoral training courses offered by the university are available on the ADUM platform.
To follow these courses, all doctoral students must register their "etu.univ-amu.fr" e-mail address as the main address for their ADUM personal space.
- The doctoral schools (ED) are responsible for disciplinary training.
- The Doctoral Training Department (DFD) offers a wide range of cross-disciplinary training courses, accessible to all doctoral students, whatever their field of study.
Three of these courses are compulsory during the 1st year of the thesis :
- Research ethics
- Scientific integrity in the research professions
- Awareness to open science.
Doctoral students may be required to attend and/or participate in training courses, conferences, summer schools, etc. not organized by the university ("hors catalog"); to ensure that these activities can be credited as training hours, they should first contact the doctoral school to which they belong.
Finally, contract doctoral students have access to the training catalog for AMU staff, via the GEFORP platform.
Among these courses, three are mandatory in the first year of the doctoral program.
