Doctoral training at Aix-Marseille Université (AMU) is organized into 12 doctoral schools (ED) federated within a Doctoral College (CD). It covers a wide variety of scientific disciplines and a broad spectrum of research fields, and draws on a supervisory potential of more than 2,500 researchers and teacher-researchers qualified to direct research (HDR). It brings together (in 2016-2017) more than 3,300 PhD students in 137 research units within AMU, but also outside AMU. Half of the doctoral students enrolled at AMU are women.
AMU's doctoral training program attracts almost 800 new doctoral students every year, and awards more than 600 doctoral degrees a year in 81 different specialties. This high potential of young researchers in training contributes greatly to the development of AMU's research and scientific output, and reinforces its reputation as a research-intensive university.
