Thesis resume

This dissertation conveys an analysis of the theoretical and practical artistic implications/questions of a research-creation process that have been underway for several years. Its main subject concerns Mediterranean territories in relation to the contemporary perception and representations of the aquatic surface that links them. The latter is considered in this study as an allegorical and symbolic space, but also as a geographical, cultural and socio-political space. My own works are part of the artistic corpus analyzed in this thesis. My artistic research, based on different performative gestures of doing and undoing, questions the notion of crossing and the relational dimension of this Mediterranean space that is both necessary and created 1. I use photography as an image and as a material in various devices, often choreographed, in order to architect visual narratives, between a real and an imaginary sea. This thesis deals globally with the question of identity linked to a desire to bring together disunited coastal territories around certain common values. It thus brings into play concepts borrowed from various scientific fields (aesthetics, sociology, psychology, art history, literature, geopolitics, cartography...) according to a resolutely interdisciplinary methodology. The aim is to define how art is currently participating in a necessary reconstruction process in the Mediterranean, through a study of the critical devices and alternative discourses that it proposes to the public. ______________________________________ 1 Charlotte Perriand defines the necessary space in relation to the space created: "(...) Space is created. There is the necessary space and then there is the created space, i.e. visually you can create space without having to create many square meters of space. On the other hand, it is absolutely necessary to find at our fingertips exactly what we need. This is what I call function, function on the one hand and the creation of space on the other.
